Think of a mosaic, a big picture made up of thousands of smaller pictures. That's what habits are like. Whatever habits we form are small, seemingly unimportant pieces, but when we zoom out, we see that all those small habits are the building blocks of us as people!
"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit."
- Aristotle

One study showed that at least 40% of all our daily activities are done habitually. That means we are not making conscious decisions to do these things. We are just doing them because that's what we are used to doing. Some habits are definitely harder to break than others.
The 21/90 rule states that it takes 21 days to build a habit, and 90 days to build a lifestyle. At the 21 day mark, the behavior should be solidified as a common activity and shouldn't take much effort to perform. At the 90 day mark, the habit should be ingrained in your daily life, and should be a normal behavior that you no longer have to think about.
It is important that we focus on the habits that we want to create. We need to propel those habits to the front of the line and give them all the attention. Eventually, these new, positive habits can replace other unwanted habits, and a new life begins to form. We are literally able to reconstruct ourselves at any point in life by being intentional with our actions.
The Project Bates Lifestyle Design program implements this principle not only with workout and nutrition plans, but with habits and suggestions for outside the gym. I will give you reminders for certain things that you will be able to check off every single day, and it feels great to check off an action that has been completed!
This is truly the way to build the life you want, from the ground up, and make it last! No more failed weight loss journeys, no more failed diets and workouts. Let's do this and let's do it right!
Let me know what habits you want to build in your life!
