Cardio...what's the verdict?

Writer's picture: Chris BatesChris Bates

So based on a former post, am I anti-cardio?

No way!

Cardio is necessary and has its place like any other workout. The former post was specifically directed toward fat loss, and a strictly cardio workout program is simply not the best method to meet that goal. However, cardio workouts have some great benefits including stress relief, heart and lung health, boosting brain power, mood improvement, and better sleep.

I have put on my share of miles and I've worn out some running shoes. I currently do cardio after my regular workout every day. I'm all for it and all the benefits it brings. For most athletes, some type of cardio is absolutely necessary.

But for fat burning and lean muscle development, cardio can take a seat. That's a job for the dumbbells.
